Astronomical evidence
The Veil Nebula is part of the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant. Its narrow filaments trace shocked gas where expanding material encounters its surroundings; edge-on folds can appear especially bright. [1] The red and cyan lace in the image draws on that observed filamentary structure. It is not an aurora in the local atmosphere or a current explosion over the landscape.
